SEVEN bowling clubs across Inverclyde have secured grant funding of more than £15,000 between them to help with their running costs.
The Grosvenor, Inverkip, Gourock, Lady Alice, Port Glasgow, Rankin Park and Wellington Park clubs were each given awards of £2,250 to help meet the cost of activities such as greens maintenance, new or improved machinery, and day-to-day running costs.
The Port Glasgow club will also use part of their slice of the cash to replace stairs and handrails around the greens, while Wellington Park said they planned to use some of their grant to help pay for a marquee for a Bowls Scotland national event held at the club.
The cash came from Inverclyde Council’s community grants fund, which also gave Fort Matilda Bowling Club a grant of the same amount to help pay for an extension to the club’s ladies’ changing rooms.
The clubs were among more than 100 organisations across Inverclyde to apply for a share of the £250,000 available from the fund this year.
