A PORT GLASGOW church has secured a share of more than £250,000 from Inverclyde Council’s community grants fund.

Ambassador Church, based in Oronsay Avenue, plans to use the cash to ‘facilitate social integration’ by providing vulnerable families in the area with household items, school clothing and help with heating.

The church has been part of the Port community for more than 50 years, originally meeting in a hall on the Clune Brae before deciding in 1972 to build a dedicated facility close to where new homes were being built at the time at Park Farm.

Earlier this year the Tele spoke to one of its early leaders, Donald Ross, who is still involved in the church's work today.

Donald said that involvement in the life of the wider community had always been key to the church's activities.

In addition to its regular worship services, the church also plays host to a lunch club, open to the whole community, every Wednesday from 12.30pm until 2pm.
