ATMOSPHERIC tales of ghosts, dreams and the supernatural are coming to the Beacon Arts Centre this week.
The Paper Cinema will feature a series of spooky short stories performed by two puppeteers and a multi-instrumentalist.
Stories set to feature include the dream-like Night Flyer, humorous Devil in Cornwall, spooky Wanderer and Edgar Allan Poe’s King Pest.
Founded in 2004 by Nicholas Rawling with Imogen Charleston and Christopher Reed, The Paper Cinema creates unique, magical performances that combine the languages of animation, music, film and theatre.
Accompanied by a live soundtrack, intricate pen and ink illustrations are skilfully manipulated in real time in front of a video camera and projected onto the big screen.
Part of the Feral Arts Takeover at this year’s Galoshans Festival, the evening show will be preceded by an afternoon workshop in which members of the public will have the chance to devise a short story in groups, begin drawing characters, turning them into puppets in the Paper Cinema style and guided through the basics of how to animate them in real time.
As part of the workshop, each group will perform their show to the rest of the participants.
The workshop takes place at the Beacon on Monday, October 21 from 1pm until 5pm, with the Paper Cinema’s show following from 7.30-8.30pm.
The workshop is free but ticketed, while admission to the evening show is £5.50 for adults and £4.50 for wheelchair users, students, concessions and children.
