THE high winds and heavy rain of Storm Ashley have eased in Inverclyde - but there's still travel disruption to contend with in the area.

Trains between Inverclyde and Glasgow were disrupted on Sunday evening after a tree fell on to the overhead wires between Bishopton and Port Glasgow and caught fire.

Network Rail announced shortly after 9.15pm on Sunday that the tree had been removed and their engineers were in the process of reopening the line.

And services on the Gourock-Glasgow and Wemyss Bay-Glasgow routes are now running as normal.

There is no longer a weather warning in place for Inverclyde, though south-westerly winds are still expected to gust to 35-40mph until Monday evening.

Gourock-Dunoon ferry services were cancelled throughout Sunday because of the bad weather, and Western Ferries also suspended their sailings between McInroy's Point and Hunter's Quay from 6pm.

Western Ferries resumed their scheduled timetable on Monday morning after the winds eased.

However, Caledonian MacBrayne has announced that a one-vessel timetable is running on the Gourock-Dunoon route because of an issue affecting the starboard engine on MV Ali Cat.

Departures from Gourock are at 0715, 0815, 0915 and 1115, with return sailings leaving Dunoon at 0745, 0845, 0945 and 1145.

A CalMac spokesperson said: "Engineers are currently working on resolving the issue and an update will be provided as soon as more information becomes available."

CalMac has also warned that its Gourock-Kilcreggan sailings "will be liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice" because of forecast adverse weather.

The company says that the 1430, 1530 and 1630 sailings from Gourock and the 1500, 1600 and 1700 departures from Kilcreggan "are at heightened risk, due to the probability of tides being significantly higher than predicted".

The company's Rothesay service will also operate to and from Gourock, instead of Wemyss Bay, all day on Monday because of forecast strong winds.

Departures from Gourock are at 0835, 1005, 1205, 1315, 1510, 1625 and 1930, with sailings from Rothesay leaving at 0705, 0830, 1020, 1145, 1340, 1455, 1650 and 1805.
