MORTON bosses have announced plans to hold a three-match 'cashless' trial at Cappielow.

The move will see the club's ticket office, catering facilities, 50/50 raffle ticket vendors and hospitality bars operate on a card only basis over the course of the club's next three home fixtures.

Club officials say the trial is a bid to improve the Cappielow matchday experience.

Copies of the Tele's special publication marking Ton's 150th anniversary, Greenock Morton: 150 Years, will be available at the Thistle game.

And it is hoped that the move will help the club improve many of their functions as well as providing a more professional environment around the stadium on matchdays.

Dale Pryde-MacDonald, Morton's general manager, says he believes the move can make matchday operations easier for both staff and fans.

“This is a step that we believe will make the club and matchday more efficient for everybody involved - supporters and staff - and will help us be better in a lot of our functions," he said.

“At present, it is felt by the board and myself that this is the best way to go to enhance the matchday experience.

“We understand that this will require some people to change the normal way they spend money at the club, but anything that helps the club become a better and more professional club will only be to the benefit of supporters in the short, medium and long term.”

The position regarding future games will be considered in a review at the end of the three-match trial.

Morton's next home fixture after the Partick Thistle game is against Livingston in the Championship on December 7.

Several other Scottish sports grounds already operate on a cashless basis on matchdays, including Hampden Park and Murrayfield as well as the food and drink kiosks at Celtic Park.
