THE trial of two police officers accused of falsifying witness statements and hiding CCTV evidence of an alleged domestic assault has been pushed back until next year.

Kevin Montgomery, 34, and Connor Beggs, 30, are charged with neglecting or violating their duties and attempting to pervert the course of justice in Greenock between August 2021 and January 2023.

Both men are alleged to have entered false information into records held by Police Scotland in relation to an incident at Arnold Clark’s dealership on East Hamilton Street.

They are accused of attempting to conceal CCTV footage of an assault, as well as trying to implicate two men who they knew did not commit the crime.

Montgomery and Beggs were due to stand trial at Greenock Sheriff Court on October 28.

At a pre-trial hearing last week, the court was told that the case would be unlikely to start due to issues surrounding the disclosure of evidence to the defence and other court business.

A new trial date was fixed for February 20 next year.

Following the initial calling of the case at Greenock Sheriff Court in July, Police Scotland confirmed that two police officers had been suspended and reported to the procurator fiscal for alleged on-duty offences.
