EDUCATION chiefs have been awarded half a million pounds to develop childcare provision in a Port Glasgow community centre.
Boglestone Community Centre will be used for the new venture to offer a community-based system of childcare that supports families most at risk of living in poverty, from early years to the end of primary school.
Inverclyde Council has been awarded the additional cash as part of the Scottish Government's early adopter community project scheme to support affordable childcare.
It comes on top of the £1.2 million received to support affordable childcare in areas where the need is greatest.
Members of the local authority's education and communities committee will be updated on the progress of the project at their next meeting, due to be held on November 5.
