A TOTAL of 8,149 children's books were borrowed from local libraries during Summer Reading Challenge.
Youngsters were invited to attend a celebration event in the Greenock Town Hall after more than 430 children completed the task of reading six books, while nearly 300 tots took on the mini challenge.
Throughout the summer there were 160 events at libraries with 2,500 children getting involved.
Over the course of the Summer Reading Challenge 88 new library memberships were processed for children in Inverclyde.
The education and communities committee will be updated at the upcoming meeting.
