INVERCLYDE Council has removed the roof of a salt barn at Greenock's recycling centre after 'significant' rot was discovered in the structure.
The decay was discovered in high level panels of the timber dome at the Pottery Street recycling facility following an engineering inspection and advice from a specialist contractor.
The dome has had to be removed as a result.
Council officers have stated in a report that temporary arrangements have been made to ensure that its winter operations which require the use of the salt barn can still go ahead.
The council plans to procure a new dome over the winter period, with the aim of installing it in spring next year.
