NOVEMBER 2, 2006: Greenock actor Martin Compston had been nominated for one of Scotland’s top acting accolades.
He had been named in the Best Actor in a Scottish Film category for the Scottish BAFTAs.
Martin’s nomination was for his performance in True North, about a Scottish fisherman caught up in a dilemma over illegal immigrants.
The film was not due to be shown in British cinemas until the following year.
Martin, 22, a former pupil at St Columba’s High, was up against Hollywood heavyweight Jonny Lee Miller.
They were going head-to-head with Pearl Harbour actor Tony Curran for Red Road, who would ultimately win the award.
