PLANS to tackle a notorious flooding hotspot in an Inverclyde conservation area have been given the green light by council bosses.
The proposals for a site in Quarriers Village, lodged with Inverclyde Council earlier this year, relate to an open space bounded by School Wynd and Church Road.
An application submitted in April explained that the proposals were aimed at mitigating against “flooding of roads, public open space, and surrounding properties in support of a forthcoming planning application”.
The plans include surface water management works including “excavation of a depression/detention area to contain a swale with associated re-grading of ground levels”.
A report on the handling of the case states that the proposals “would not see the loss of open space and indeed should result in an enhancement of the area overall”.
The report also says that no comments were received by members of the public either for or against the plans, and that the Kilmacolm Civic Trust, a statutory consultee, “support[s] the application as there is a clear need for this work to be done”.
The report adds: “With regard to the location of the site within the conservation area, there would be no impact on the character or appearance of the area asthe developmentwill ensure that existing natural and built features which contribute to the character of the conservation area and its setting are retained.”
The application was lodged by Dougall Baillie Associates of East Kilbride on behalf of the Quarriers charity.
