A SCOTTISH singer-songwriter described as “one of the greatest live acts around right now” is coming to the Inverclyde stage next week.
Ross Wilson, aka Blue Rose Code, writes songs straight from – and to - the heart, addressing universal themes in a deeply personal way and seamlessly blend folk, Americana, jazz, soul and pop influences into something truly unique.
Brought up by his grandmother in a high rise flat in Edinburgh, Ross skipped school regularly to listen to his favourite music, but soon became addicted to the drink and drugs he had been heavily consuming in an effort to escape a troubled upbringing.
Following the death of his grandmother Ross escaped to London, but remained dogged by alcoholism and addiction until he changed his outlook on music and his life while in New York in 2012 and began work on Blue Rose Code's debut album, North Ten.
Since then Blue Rose Code have released a series of acclaimed live and studio albums and EPs, the most recent of which, Bright Circumstance, was released in May of this year and was described by some reviewers as “an absolute classic” – unsurprisingly earning a nomination for Scotland’s Album of the Year.
The Greenock gig is part of a 10-date UK tour to showcase the new album, kicking off in Edinburgh this weekend and continuing until March of next year.
Blue Rose Code are at the main theatre in the Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock on Friday, November 8, when Ross will be joined on stage by yet-to-be-announced special guests.
Tickets (£16-20) are available at beaconartscentre.co.uk/events.
