MEMBERS of a Gourock church are hosting a concert in their sanctuary next week for a collective of British worship songwriters.

St John's Parish Church is hosting Resound Worship on Thursday, November 7, as part of plans to deliver more events which they hope will engage the wider community.

The concert begins at 7.30pm and attendees can meet the band beforehand at 6.30pm to learn more about their music and their charity work.

The congregation often use Resound Worship songs during their worship services, so when they heard there was an opportunity to host them in their own church halls, they leapt at the opportunity.

Commenting, Rev Teri Peterson, minister at St John's Church, said: “We heard that Resound Worship were having a concert at another church in Scotland, so we asked them if they wanted to have one here in our church too.

“Some of our members have formed a praise band which allows us to enjoy some of Resound Worship’s songs during our Sunday morning services.

“We also use their songs during more informal evening services, so we’re delighted that they were more than happy to come to our little corner of the world.

“People are being encouraged to make a donation on the door, but this isn’t a requirement – the concert is open to everyone and anyone.

“For us, this is about trying something new as a church community which we hope enthuses current members whilst also helping us to engage with people who might not have been to church in a long time, or who’ve never been to church at all.

"There is so much conflict happening across the world, and many people in our local communities are struggling. Plus, as the darker nights set in, many people will feel more isolated and alone.

“We want to explore new ways of inviting and welcoming people into our church family, but also providing more events that are just about offering more opportunities for people from all walks of life to come together.

“More events are planned for the near future, and we really do hope that the people of Gourock will see these as positive events happening in their local town.”
