A WOMAN who is taking on a 5,000-mile charity walk around Britain in memory of her late wife is set to pass through Inverclyde this weekend.
Tracey Howe plans to walk around the entire mainland coastline following the loss of Angela White, who passed away from blood cancer last year at the age of 58.
The 60-year-old hopes to raise £100,000 for the Beatson Cancer Charity, Marie Curie, Brainstrust, Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel.
Tracey set off from the Beatson in Glasgow today and will walk 19 miles to Port Glasgow.
She will follow Inverclyde’s coastline tomorrow to reach Wemyss Bay.
From there, Tracey will spend a week traveling south along the Ayrshire coast through Kilwinning, Ayr and Girvan.
She will continue through Dumfries and Galloway before crossing the border at Gretna.
The retired professor plans to cover around 20 miles each day, walking six days a week to complete an anti-clockwise circuit of the mainland.
Tracey said: “Angela left a horrific gaping hole in my life when she passed away last September, aged just 58, but I want to turn my grief into a positive.
“The long walk, which I have called Tracey’s Trek, will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
“It will be tough mentally and physically but I think Angela would be proud of me.
“I am doing it for her and also to raise as much money as possible for charities that are close to my heart.”
