THE housing developer behind the transformation of the former Greenock Academy into luxury homes is throwing its weight behind a local youth football team.
CCG Homes has been based in Inverclyde for the last year since formally starting construction at ‘The Scholars’ in the west end of Greenock, 10 years since the old Academy was demolished.
And after reaching out to the local community, local youth side Port Glasgow Boys Club's 2008 team will now bear the ‘CCG Homes’ emblem on their home strips for the rest of this season.
Coach Mark Coyle said the company's backing has played a vital part in ensuring a team gets on the park this season.
"This sponsorship is absolutely vital to the team.
"We didn’t have enough shirts for the boys on match days last season, so we can’t thank CCG Homes enough for their support and will aim to repay them and our other sponsors with a successful season.”
CCG Homes marketing manager Chris Murray insists the move was a no brainer after hearing of the side's struggle to secure funds
He said: “When we heard the team was struggling for sponsorship, we were only too happy to oblige.
"It was great to meet Mark and the boys and to see the CCG Homes emblem take pride of place on these vibrant, new home kits.
"I look forward to keeping up with their progress during the season. We wish them the very best of luck!”
The team have also been kitted out by two other local businesses for the 2024-25 campaign.
Tonino's Pizziera have also stepped up to sponsor the side's home kits along side Garden Maintenance 4u who'll appear on the side's black away kits.
A club spokesperson said: "We would like to thank our sponsors: without sponsorship of kits and supplies then it would be near impossible for football teams to continue.
"We would also like to thank David McCorkindale of Inverclyde Leisure for helping to secure kit sponsors for this season."
