IT'S set to be another busy week of events in Inverclyde, with several concerts, shows and other performances taking place.

This week will also see the start of the festivities in the area as a local garden centre hosts a Christmas lights switch-on.

Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall, Waterfront Cinema

(Image: George Munro) Greenock’s Waterfront Cinema will host a screening of a ‘theatrical masterpiece’ this week.

A live recording of the Phantom of the Opera, filmed at the Royal Albert Hall in 2011, will return to the big screen on November 5 at 7:30pm.

Sweeney Todd, Beacon Arts Centre

(Image: Alex Craig) Greenock Light Opera Club will host several performances of Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Fleet Street next week at the Beacon Arts Centre Studio.

The show promises to ‘shock, thrill and delight’ audiences with its ‘razor-sharp humour and spine-tingling music’.

Performances will take place every night at 7:30pm from November 6-9, with a matinee also scheduled for 2:30pm on November 9.

Scottish Ballet at the Beacon

Theatre-goers will have a rare opportunity to take in a Scottish Ballet performance in Greenock next week.

The acclaimed company will visit the Beacon on November 6 and 7, brining a show which features the work of four choreographers.

Christmas Lights Switch On, Cardwell Garden Centre

(Image: Pexels) Christmas has almost arrived at Cardwell Garden Centre, where a festive lights switch-on will be held on November 7.

The event will run from 5pm-9pm, with the Ardgowan Singers and Salvation Army Band providing entertainment throughout.

Santa’s Grotto and carnival will also be open at from 6pm until 8:30pm.

The lights switch on will take place in the outdoor shrubs area next to the Patio Café at 6pm.


Blue Rose Code, Beacon Arts Centre

A Scottish singer-songwriter described as “one of the greatest live acts around right now” is coming to the Greenock stage this week.

Ross Wilson, aka Blue Rose Code, will perform at the Beacon Arts Centre on November 8.

His music is said to address universal themes in a deeply personal way, blending folk, Americana, jazz, soul and pop influences.
