NOVEMBER 5, 2007: A spectacular fireworks display wowed the crowds at the finale of Inverclyde’s first Myths and Legends festival.
Thousands turned out to take in the carnival atmosphere.
Green and red dragons led a colourful parade of musicians and elf-like creatures along to Customhouse Quay.
And hat-clad tots gazed in wonder at the snow family, who came all the way from ‘Iceland’.
Wandering pipers and Europe’s biggest troupe of female drummers, SheBoom, added to the fun.
There were also arts and crafts tents offering face painting and tarot readings.
But the undoubted highlight was the 30-minute firework display, which was held at the waterfront for the first time.
Explosions of green, red and gold burst across the sky, accompanied by a musical medley from Star Wars, The Simpsons and Superman.
Silver fireworks spectacularly erupted like geysers over the waterfront, reflecting in the water.
Standing tall in the foreground of the display was a 25ft wicker man ‘Auld Dunrod’ who sparkled with lights.
John McGregor, 32, and Karen Grieve, 33, from Port Glasgow, watched the show with their family.
Dad-of-two John said: “It was a lot better than when it was held at Battery Park. It’s a lot easier to move around and it’s not muddy.”
Son Shaun, 10, said: “The fireworks were amazing.”
Joseph Lyon, who was with his seven-year-old son, Reece, said: “The festival’s been really good. We should have things like this more often.”
Festival organiser Catriona Henderson, Inverclyde Council’s arts development officer, said: “There must be thousands of people here.
“I’m very pleased with the turnout and I hope people enjoyed themselves. It’s been a very successful event.”
