NEWARK Angling Club's salt water champion for 2024 was crowned at the club's last outing of the season.

With George Gemmell senior winning the brown trout champion's title, the salt water accolade went to Gilbert Bradley, fishing his favourite mark on Loch Long.

Bradley returned three fish for top place to lift the trophy on a day that saw the various anglers taking part only returning nine fish, with torrential rain all afternoon on Loch Fyne meaning many struggled in the harsh conditions.

Barry Doolan, fishing off the 'lawyers house' area on Loch Fyne, could only manage one return on the spinner.

Henry Harrison, along with Davy McDonald senior, fishing at St Catherine's on Loch Fyne, would struggle with the conditions on the loch, but both managed one return catch each.

The same area saw Billy Matthews return two fish, one of them over 1lb, the heaviest fish on the outing.

Stevie Leitch managed two returns from Loch Gyne while junior members Luca Eardley and Calum McDonald won the junior salt water and fresh water champion trophies respectively.

Speaking after the competition, a club spokesperson said: "The club thanks Paul Church for his sponsorship of the outing.

Thanks to Newark Travel for the excellent service provided and thanks to MoJos Cafe (John Molloy) in Port Glasgow for the nice catering provided on the final outing of the season."

Results: 1 Gilbert Bradley 2lb 4oz (3 fish); 2 Billy Matthews 2lb 1oz (2 fish); 3 Stevie Leitch 1lb 4oz (2 fish); 4 Davy McDonald senior 0lb 14oz (1 fish).
