MORE than 600 people turned out to support a long-running Inverclyde institution that's always on the right track.

Greenock & District Model Railway Club (Greenock MRC) hosted its 39th exhibition at Lyle Kirk in Greenock in October.

The two-day celebration showcased an amazing array of model railway layouts and welcomed people from all ages who love trains.

He said: "It was a great event and we've had a lot of really positive feedback from people.

"We're known as the friendliest show in the west of Scotland and it's always a very relaxed atmosphere.

"Our club funds have been given a real boost by this year's event."

Brian said the show has led to quite a few people showing an interest in joining the club, which he says is fantastic.

At the event, people of all ages got the chance to see trains and tracks from Meccano, BRIO, and Thomas the Tank Engine, and Greenock club member John Miller brought along his Hornby Dublo set.

Trade stands across the weekend included Junction Box, Shedring, Model Electronics Railway Group (MERG), and companies selling plastic model kits.

The team at Renfrewshire Club won the Keith Taylor memorial trophy for their Gresty Bridge layout, and also won the public vote.

Brian said Greenock MRC have already booked Lyle Kirk again for their 40th show next year.

He said: "It's going to be our big bumper show for the special anniversary with bigger layouts.

"The trade stands did really well this year, and the traders have all said they will be back next year too."

He added: "The food was exceptional.

"The team at Lyle Gateway did an excellent job for us.

"We want to thank the public for coming along and supporting the show, and we hope they all had a great time."
