NEW EV CHARGING POINTS NEAR SHOPPING PARK
Plans have been approved to install new charging points for electric vehicles at a Greenock shopping park.
The EV Network had applied to Inverclyde Council for permission to install five ‘ultra rapid’ charging stations, serving 10 parking spaces, at the Waterfront Retail Park.
The facilities were planned for the western end of the retail park, to the side of the existing Halfords store, next to Container Way.
A design and access statement submitted along with the formal application reveals that each charger will be an ‘Alpitronic HYC300’ unit, capable of delivering 300kW charging power.
PLAN TO INSTALL CCTV AT B-LISTED FORMER CHURCH
Plans to install solar panels and CCTV cameras at a former church described as “an important piece of Gourock’s heritage” have been approved.
Inverclyde Council has given the green light to the proposals for the former St Bartholomew’s Church building on Barrhill Road.
The B-listed building, a much-loved local landmark, was put up for sale in December 2022, five months after hosting its last church service, with dwindling numbers of members and a lack of funds blamed for the decision to close it down after 160 years. The building was sold two months later.
SHORT TERM LET FLATS BID THROWN OUT
A controversial bid to turn the upper floors of a Greenock west end building into short-let term apartments has been thrown out.
Borland Property Limited wanted to change the listed building in Union Street into six serviced accommodation units with no allocated parking.
Councillors were split over the application, five votes for and five against, but convener Tommy McVey used his casting vote to refuse planning permission.

HOT FOOD TAKEAWAY BUSINESS PLAN IS GREEN LIT
A bid to change a former Greenock shop to a hot food takeaway business has been given the green light by councillors.
The premises, which are currently empty, lie at the junction of Pennyfern Road and Maple Road.
The application also includes a extract flue at the side of the building.
BOWLING CLUB GETS GO-AHEAD FOR NEW HALL
An Inverclyde bowling club is looking to the future after getting the go-ahead to build a new hall - despite concerns from council officials over parking.
Gourock Park Bowling Club asked Inverclyde Council's local review body to rule on its plans after officials from the authority failed to reach a decision within the standard two-month deadline.
Planners had recommended the club's application be refused because of a lack of parking provision and concerns over congestion that could be caused by more vehicles parking on the street.
