POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a common close in Greenock was deliberately set alight.
Emergency services received reports of a blaze at a block of flats on Mount Pleasant Street at around 6:20am on Saturday..
Scottish Fire and Rescue crews extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which officers say they are treating as wilful fire-raising.
Detective Constable John Casey of Greenock CID said: "Fortunately no one was hurt as a result of this dangerous and reckless act.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing and we are keen to trace those responsible.
“I would urge anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or who has any information that could help to get in touch.
"We’re also keen to hear anyone who may have relevant private CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage.”
Those with information are asked to contact 101 quoting incident 0722 of Saturday, November 9.
