MORE than 100 people were reported missing in Inverclyde in the space of five months earlier this year, a new report has revealed.
Data shared by police ahead of the next meeting of Inverclyde Council’s police and fire scrutiny panel shows that 113 people were reporting missing locally between the start of April this year and the end of August.
The total represents an increase of 11.9 per cent when compared to the same period in 2023.
The same police report also says that all those who were reported missing during the period were later traced safe and well.
The average time between a person being reported missing and their being traced was 13 hours, while almost four in five of those who were reported missing were young people.
Five people who were most frequently reported missing accounted for 43 separate reports, representing 38 per cent of the total number of reports.
Police say all five were care-experienced young people.
The report will go before the scrutiny panel at a meeting on Thursday, November 21.
