NOVEMBER 11, 2011: X Factor star Lucie Jones lit up Greenock as she added a bit of sparkle to a festive switch-on ceremony in the town.

Welsh beauty Lucie took to the stage in the Oak Mall in front of hundreds of adoring fans and brought the spirit of Christmas to the town.

The 20-year-old, who starred in the X Factor live shows in 2009, belted out hits including Sweet Child Of Mine by Guns n Roses and a special Katy Perry medley before getting into the festive spirit with Mariah Carey classic All I Want For Christmas.

Crowds of locals, young and old, lined the mall to catch a glimpse of the popular young singer who had people clapping and singing along to her set which also included a performance of the popular Don’t Stop Believing by Journey.

Lucie spoke exclusively to the Tele straight after her barnstorming set.

She said: “This is the first time I have been to Greenock but I love Scotland and that’s why I donned some tartan today especially for the occasion.

“Performing was great and it was such a lovely crowd — people here have been very welcoming.

“It’s difficult thinking about Christmas in November but I have been feeling festive for a while and hopefully I have brought some Christmas spirit to Greenock.”

Oak Mall centre manager, Claire Jefcoate, said: “X Factor is such a popular programme and we are delighted to have another one of its stars here in Greenock not only for our customers but for all the staff.

“X Factor caters for all ages, much like the Oak Mall does, and we were happy to bring Lucie here to kick off the Christmas festivities.”

Lucie has been starring alongside American popstar Nick Jonas in Les Miserables in London’s west end as well as writing songs and working on her own clothing range since she shot to fame on the X Factor.
