THE future of a new rape crisis service in Inverclyde is safe despite a recent split.

Rape Crisis Glasgow and Clyde launched sessions locally in February this year.

As a result, Your Voice now hosts the confidential drop ins once a month.

The Glasgow-based service recently split from the national rape crisis service as a result of a conflict over the inclusion of trans women.

But the new service has reassured women in Inverclyde that there will be no changes to the support available in the local area.

A spokesperson said: "There will be no changes with the services Glasgow Rape Crisis CRC provides, and that includes our drop in centres.

"So the Inverclyde centre continues exactly as it has been going."

The rape crisis service set up earlier this year provides support for women and girls over the age of 13 following rape or sexual abuse, both recent or historical.

There is also support available for friends and family members.

In Inverclyde women and girls can get access to one to one emotional support.

The next session takes on Thursday, November 26 from 1pm to 4pm at Your Voice, Macmillan rooms, Clyde Square.
