STAFF at a Greenock nursery have been praised by a watchdog for their passion for providing quality care to children.

The Care Inspectorate’s report on Kidology has been published after an unannounced inspection visit in October.

The registered nursery on Bank Street has been praised for the ‘warm and nurturing care’ they give to the 36 children who attend the daycare centre.

Throughout the two day inspection, the nursery was assessed on four key quality areas: care, play and learning, setting, leadership, and staff team - scoring a ‘good’ ranking for all.

Kidology currently looks after six children who are aged between 0 and 18 months, 15 more aged between 18 and 30 months, and a further 15 who are aged 30 months or older and are not yet attending primary school full time.

During the visit, an inspector spoke to nine members of staff and received feedback from 17 parents or carers.

Kidology manager Marion Smillie praised her staff for all the hard work they do.

“Everybody looks at care inspections differently," she told the Tele.

"It can be quite a challenge for the staff when that knock comes on the door, and someone is going to inspect what you do in your daily work.

“The report shows that the level of care and the ethos we have is felt the minute you walk in the door.”

Marion is glad that parents want to talk so freely about Kidology.

“We don't do any advertising," she continued

"All of our children come to us through word of mouth, which just shows how positive the standard of care and teaching we provide is.”

The report said: “The management and staff team engaged well during the inspection process and were open to ideas and suggestions we made over the course of our visit.

“It was evident that the management team were passionate about providing a quality service for children and families and were proactive in making improvements.”

It was noted in the report that children have the use of three indoor play rooms and one outdoor play space and often have opportunities to visit local parks and shops with plans to reintroduce visits to the local care home.

The report also said: “All parents strongly agreed or agreed that they were happy with the service provided and felt they were consulted on their child's care, learning and development.

“Strong relationships with children and families were valued. As a result, children and families experienced a safe, nurturing and loving ethos.”

The report also reveals that there have been no complaints upheld against the nursery since Kidology’s last inspection.
