A GREENOCK man is behind bars after a seven-month crime spree in the town finally caught up with him.

Serial offender John Dorrian repeatedly thumbed his nose at court orders while committing a series of offences between April and November of last year - including possession of potentially lethal blades and of class A drugs.

The 47-year-old was jailed at Greenock Sheriff Court for more than a year and a half after pleading guilty in connection with three separate cases.

He admitted two indictment charges concerning an incident on Cathcart Street in Greenock on September 27, 2023, in which he was found with two Stanley blades in a public place.

Dorrian, of West Regent Street, was also in possession of a quantity of cocaine at the time.

Prosecutors said Dorrian was on three bail orders, granted on earlier dates at Greenock Sheriff Court, when the offences were committed.

Sheriff Anthony McGeehan sentenced Dorrian to a period of 14 months in jail for the two offences.

Dorrian also entered guilty pleas in relation to incidents which occurred on Roxburgh Street on April 20 last year.

A learner driver at the time, Dorrian drove a Vauxhall Corsa on the street unsupervised and without displaying learner plates, while also having no valid insurance policy.

The Tele previously reported on Dorrian's pleas of guilty to another offences of driving unsupervised while still a learner - committed after the Roxburgh Street incident, in Inverkip Road on April 26.

Dorrian had been released on a night-time curfew following the April 20 offence, on which sentencing was deferred to allow the case to call alongside other matters.

Also on April 20, Dorrian breached a bail order which had been granted at Greenock Sheriff Court two months earlier.

As part of that bail order, Dorrian had been ordered to avoid approaching or contacting a particular woman - but he admitted being in her company on that date.

While Dorrian was admonished in relation to the two driving offences, he was sentenced to a further two months' imprisonment for the breach of bail.

He was handed another custodial sentence of 145 days after pleading guilty to a charge of theft by shoplifting on November 1, 2023.

The shoplifting incident took place at The Range on Greenock’s West Shaw Street.

Earlier this year, Dorrian was spared jail after he pleaded guilty to shouting and swearing at his girlfriend - who was just 17 at the time - only days after being ordered to stay away from her.

The town's sheriff court heard Dorrian had called the teen 'a dirty wee rat', and accused her of cheating on him during a three-and-a-half hour rant in the early hours of the morning in February 2023.
