AN INVERCLYDE drama group got the Christmas spirit going at a festive craft fayre in town - and raised much-needed cash for their own funds in the process.

Riverside Stage Company hosted the event offering  a wide range of home-made gifts up for sale at the sale at Paton Street Community Hall.

The items ranged from floral gifts and wreaths to Christmas pictures, hand-sewn forever bears made from clothing from loved ones who have passed away, jewellery and ornaments, and wood-burning items.

Thomas Williams, of Riverside Stage Company, said: "It was a great day, we had quite a few people through the day.

"It went really well.

"We held it a bit earlier this year, so it wasn't as busy but it was still well supported.

"Myself and my partner took a table, I make jewellery and ornaments and my partner does woodburning and calligraphy.

"So everything we sold went towards the drama group. We made about £120 from the tables and £200 altogether."

Thomas said the event was also a way of letting people know that the hall is open.

The group got the guys to the old community centre last year and as leaseholders have been breathing life into the hall which closed in 2018 after being damaged by a fire.

As well as using it as a rehearsal and performance space are keen to hold other community events Thomas said: "It was nice to see the neighbours who live on Paton Street.

"We are hoping to run more events like bingo nights. I know a lot of pensioners used to play bingo in the hall.

"A lot of people stop me in the street and ask me when the bingo nights are coming back.

"There are still a lot of people who don't know is open now, but eventually the full building will be open again."
