PEOPLE in Gourock and across Inverclyde are being invited to take part in a church quiz night tonight (Saturday) to support a Christian charity's work around the world.
St John’s Parish Church in Gourock are taking part in Tearfund’s Big Quiz Night on November 16.
Tearfund is a Christian charity which partners with churches in more than 50 of the world’s poorest countries. They aim to tackle poverty and injustice through sustainable development, by responding to disasters and challenging injustice.
They issued to a call to see if 500 UK churches would take part in their quiz to help raise money for their projects – and St. John’s have heeded their call.

The quiz will be compered by Ardgowan Hospice CEO, Graham Gardiner, and starts at 7.30pm in their large hall (entrance from St John’s Road).
He hopes that this will entice from all over Gourock to have some fun while fundraising for a good cause.
Commenting, Graham said: “I saw Tearfund were advertising their Big Quiz Night and thought, why can’t St John’s be one of those churches to get involved?
“This is something fun for everyone, and by everyone we mean everyone – it’s not just for our church members.
“This is part of our efforts to become a pillar in the local community by providing opportunities for people of all ages and walks of life to socialise.
“As a church, we have spent time engaging with and listening to the local community who have told us that if you’re a young person or you don’t enjoy going to the pub, for whatever reason, there’s very few places for you to socialise in the evenings or weekends.
“That’s when we realised that we are well placed to try to deliver events for the whole community.
“I’m a big believer in trying new things to see what works and what doesn’t, but I’m hopeful that people will see this as a fun evening where we can raise money to help end poverty.
“I hope people from all over Gourock and beyond come and take part in our Big Quiz Night.”
