A FOUNDATION set up by friends of a much-loved Greenock man has raised more than £43,000 for worthy causes in its first six months.
Danny Knox, 39, passed away in May after being treated for bladder cancer, spending his final days being looked after by the team at Ardgowan Hospice.
A group of his pals came together following the loss to form The Danny Knox Foundation, a non-profit organisation which seeks to emulate Danny's kindness in supporting others.
Paul Stinson, one of those overseeing the foundation, previously told the Tele that raising cash for charity would be the ‘perfect way’ to pay tribute to his friend.
Since launching, the group has run a number of fundraising events – including a golf day which pulled in £24,000 in donations. Of this, £11,000 went directly to Ardgowan Hospice.

A team representing the foundation also took on Ben Nevis in August, raising another £5,000, with a charity ball in September drawing in £13,000 to support various organisations.
The money raised has allowed the foundation to make a £3,000 donation to Children In Poverty Inverclyde, with contributions also being made to the Beatson through the Gordon Cowan Memorial.
Funds from the charity ball have also been used to support local football team, including Greenock Juniors 2009 section, by providing training jackets.
Inverclyde Women’s Aid also received £1,500 to allow fundraisers to take on a firewalk.
A spokesperson for the foundation said: “Danny was known for his quiet, behind-the-scenes support of various charities, never seeking recognition for his efforts.
“As his friends, we are committed to continuing his legacy by raising funds through events such as charity balls, golf days, and other community initiatives, with the goal of supporting local charities and giving back to the Inverclyde community, just as Danny did.”
The foundation has also signed up to sponsor a fund-raising 'fire walk' taking place in Greenock later this month for Inverclyde Women's Aid.
