A CELEBRATION of the achievements and rehabilitation of local people who have been involved in the criminal justice system will take place in Greenock this week.
The team at Inverclyde Faith in Throughcare (IFiT) have organised an event at Beacon Arts Centre to coincide with Prisoners Week Scotland 2024.
'Hear My Voice' will showcase the talents of local people, and give support services a platform to highlight the help and advice they provide.
IFiT's Robbie Murdoch said the event, on Friday, November 22, will 'give a voice to people who are usually unheard'.
He added: "The whole day will be a celebration of art, music, and creativity, and will show the importance of giving people the chance to express themselves.
"We want to raise awareness and challenge stigma, and help people understand more about people who are involved in the criminal justice system, past and present."
At the event, attendees will get the chance to explore a beautiful new exhibition - Inhibition - which has been created by prisoners at HMP Greenock.
Art tutor Catriona Reid helped 30 artists who are currently being held at the prison create 100 amazing pieces of art.
Musicians who are part of the Your Voice Recovery Jam, and the IFit Jam, are set to provide the tunes at the event.
Attendees will hear stories from people involved in the criminal justice system, and will get the chance to discuss their own experiences.

Organisations from all over Inverclyde and beyond are ready to set up their information stalls to offer help and advice, and signpost people to local services.
There will be a buffet and refreshments too.
Robbie said everyone involved with IFiT is looking forward to marking Prisoners Week with the important event.
He added: "There will be fun and serious aspects on the day, and people will be on-hand to provide help and support to those who need it."
Gary Morrison, 52, said the event is a great idea and he's looking forward to going along.
He said: "IFiT has been an amazing source of support to me over the last two years.
"With my drug habit, I had a chaotic lifestyle.
"If it wasn't for IFiT I wouldn't have a purpose.
"It gives me somewhere to go and is a safe space.
"There are lots of different opportunities out there for me now."
The event will run at the Beacon from 10am-5pm.
Tickets are free but places should be booked by calling the Beacon on 01475 723723.
