BETTER services for carers in Inverclyde are being launched to mark the UK's annual Carers Rights Day - and unpaid carers across the area are being invited to an event to help them learn more about the rights they have and the services they can use.
Carers Rights Day this year takes place on Thursday, November 21, and the centrepiece of the event locally is an information day for carers, being held at the new Carers Gateway Inverclyde offices in Greenock.
Taking place from 10am onwards at the organisation's new base at 29 West Stewart Street, carers will be able to learn about topics that are important to them such as power of attorney, guardianship, advocacy support and self-directed support.

Experts from Neill, Clerk & Murray solicitors and Circles Advocacy will be on hand to answer and questions.
There will be the opportunity to meet the Inverclyde team and other local organisations over lunch and learn what other services and support is available.
Alongside the information event, Thursday will also see the launch of a new out-of-hours service aimed at ensuring 'in-work carers' can receive equitable access to support.
An innovative new digital portal will enable carers to get access to support 24 hours a day, and to create their own online support plans.
Jacqueline Murray, service manager at Carers Gateway Inverclyde, said: "As a carer, knowing your rights is empowering and ensures you can get the help you need.
"Our aim is to make carers aware of their legal entitlements, from unpaid leave to requesting a carer's assessment."
Under the Carers Act of 2016, carers now have the right to unpaid carer’s leave, to request flexible working, to ask your GP practice to identify you as a carer, the right and choice to request a free flu jab, protection against discrimination or harassment, the right to request a carer's assessment, and the right to be consulted when the person they care for is discharged from hospital.
"Every day, unpaid carers make incredible sacrifices to support their loved ones," Jacqueline continued.
"Carers Rights Day is about empowering them with the knowledge and resources they need to take care of themselves as well."
