INVERCLYDE is braced for an extra threat of icy spells this week after a yellow weather warning was issued for the area.
The Met Office issued a warning for today and Thursday, November 21, as sub zero temperatures continue to engulf the area.
The latest yellow warning is in place from 4pm today (Wednesday November 21) until 10am tomorrow and warns members of the public of an increased chance of icy weather affecting the area.
Forecasters say that icy stretches are expected to form on untreated surfaces during Wednesday evening and overnight into Thursday as temperatures drop below freezing.
A few sleet or snow showers are also likely at times, particularly close to coasts.
The warning means that it is probable that there will be some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
Pedestrians also are at risk of sustaining injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
Commuters are being advised to plan ahead and check for potential delays and road closures.
Those making a journey on foot are advised to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery.
Similarly those who are cycling are advised to try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
