INVERCLYDE is braced for yet more sub-zero conditions as the November cold snap looks to bite a little bit harder.

It comes after Met Office officials issued a third yellow weather warning for the area in the last 24-hours.

The snow and ice warning was issued by forecasters this morning and means that alerts will be in place for the rest of the week as the cold snap - that's seen temperatures plunge below zero in Inverclyde for much of the week - looks to continue to engulf the west coast of Scotland and much of the UK.

Yesterday the area saw the first flurry of snow ahead of the winter season as blizzard-like conditions hit.

The warning predicts that snow showers will affect many northern and western areas of Scotland through this afternoon [Thursday November 21] and overnight into Friday [November 22].

The showers will be frequent at times and may also be accompanied by hail. Snow accumulations are likely to reach 2-5 cm fairly widely with up to 10cm in some areas, especially northern parts of the mainland.

Forecasters have warned that there may be a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off, along with a small chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

Should snow showers arrive in Inverclyde, there is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.

Commuters are being advised to plan ahead to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces the risk of accidents, slips, and falls.

Public transport users are also being urged to plan ahead - by checking road conditions, bus and train timetables and amending their plans if necessary.
