A GREENOCK opticians has set its sights on keeping Inverclyde children safe this winter.
The team at Specsavers in Greenock has provided free high-visibility jackets to youngsters as the nights become darker.
The Oak Mall store has already donated 50 high-vis vests to the Rainbow Family Centre nursery in Port Glasgow, ensuring young children are clearly visible when out on walks.
They are urging anyone involved with a children's group, or with children in nursery or primary school, to visit the store and collect one of the remaining 50 high-vis jackets.
The sizes they currently have available are small and medium.
High-visibility jackets are intended to help wearers remain visible to drivers, particularly as evenings become darker earlier.
This community initiative coincides with Road Safety Week, from November 17 to November 23, an annual campaign by the charity Brake to raise awareness of the consequences of road crashes.
Claire Kincaid, director at Specsavers in Greenock, said: "With evenings getting darker earlier and earlier, we wanted to play our part in keeping children in our community safe while walking alongside roads when visibility is lower for drivers.
"If anyone would like to receive one of these hi-vis jackets before they run out, please pay us a visit in store.
"We also urge drivers to be conscious of their eyesight this time of year and visit the team if they’ve not had an eye examination in the past two years to ensure their eyesight is suitable for winter driving conditions."
