THERE was a massive cause for celebration as Inverclyde Athletic Club hosted their long-awaited junior prizegiving at Gourock Bowling Club.
This was the first prizegiving held by the club since 2019 and the organising sub-group’s decision to focus on the Under 11 and Under 13 juniors was given the thumbs up by parents and athletes as they enjoyed a variety of quizzes, games, photo booth, and dancing after the awards presentation.
Presenting the awards was the club’s Under 20 athlete, Millie McClelland-Brooks, who represented Scotland last year at the Commonwealth Youth Games held in Trinidad & Tobago in the 1500 metres.
Millie is a great role medal for the junior section of the club as she has shown that hard work, determination, and resilience can lead to success and her presence was greatly appreciated by the prize-winners.
A club spokesperson told the Tele: "The organising sub-group were truly worthy of the praise heaped on them by the families who all commented on what a ‘wonderful, inclusive, family’ event it was, which totally reflected the ethos of the club.
"Many thanks to organising sub-group: Alan Callan, Morven Callan, Kay Cooke, Faye Currie, Gerry Gaffney, Sean Gaffney, Brenda Hainey, Geraldine Henry, Kim Law, Collette McGeehan, Hannah McGeehan.
Many thanks to musicians, Sonic Void, to Gourock Bowling Club for their support and the venue, which was fantastic for this type of event, to Peter McLaughlin who was the event photographer, Lynne Owens for the photo booth frames and to Leo Currie, Elaine Kirkwood, Paul Kirkwood for their help during the event.
"Thanks must also go to those who donated prizes for the raffle and the many spot prizes awarded throughout the event."
Inverclyde AC’s junior forum is now going to decide on what type of event they want for the Under 15 and Under 17 prizegiving, but it will take a lot of creativity and ingenuity to live up to the success of Saturday evening.
