YOUNG musicians in Inverclyde were celebrated at a special competition organised by the Gourock Rotary Club.
The annual event showcases the very best talent in schools around the region with Provost Drew McKenzie presenting the prizes.
This year there were some fantastic performances in the Beacon from musicians playing instruments and also from vocalists
The event was well represented by all the secondary schools in Inverclyde.
On the night the winners of the vocal section was Kara McEwen from St Columba's and the instrumental section went to Emily Hathaway from Port Glasgow High.
Gourock Rotary Club was supported by the Inverclyde Windfarm Trust.
We reported that Port Glasgow student Cody Macdonald won Young Citizen of the Year.
The prizewinners for the Vocalists were, in first place, Kara McEwen St. Columba’s High School; Zara Brown of Clydeview Academy in second place and third place Cameron Steele, of Port Glasgow High School.
Commendations also went to Cailyn McArthur, of St Stephen’s High School, Lucy McCracken of Notre Dame High School, and Emily Humphreys, of Inverclyde Academy.
Young musicians for instrumental were: first place Emily Hathaway (Marimba), of Port Glasgow High School, second place Graeme Octaviano (Guitar), of St. Columba’s High School, and third place Hugh Francis Rush (drums), of Inverclyde Academy.
Commendations were awarded to Ethan McArthur (guitar), of St. Stephen’s High School, Zara Crawford (violin), of Notre Dame High School, and Dylan Bell (bagpipes), of Clydeview Academy.
