Cheery TV weatherman Sean Batty put Kilmacolm on the map after making a special visit to the primary school to give pupils a sneak peek of his new book.

Sean chose these pupils as some of the first in the country to hear him read his festive story The Worst Christmas Weather Ever.

Primary 1s were thrilled to meet the TV celebrity in person and STV meteorologist Sean even brought a weather map with him.

Sean told the Telegraph: "I have been writing the book for a few years. It all started during lockdown with my 'mini me' team. I used to ask children to send in their pictures and I would show them every night on TV.

"I have also been doing education work for schools and I'm starting a Met Academy and next year a learning portal for schools."

He said the book is an early introduction to climate change, adding: "I was thinking how do you teach young children, who best to tell the story but Santa who has been travelling the world for hundreds of years?

"From snow melting in the North Pole, Koalas escaping the bush fires in Australia and in Ethiopia a baboon had to deliver the presents to people who had fled the drought.

"In the Scottish highlands, the weather has been warmer than its ever been, 19 degrees. Every chapter is about something that has actually happened - it's not a fairy story."

The visit was arranged through the Ginger Cat Bookshop which was previously based in Kilmacolm before moving to Bridge of Weir.

Owner Aileen Jeffrey said: "Sean came was visiting Bridge of Weir Primary this morning and Kilmacolm this afternoon and the visits coincide with Book Week Scotland."

Sean also had a screen up where he showed an animation of the book so the children could see and listen to the story.
