TALENTED pupils at Notre Dame High School have been wowing audiences with their fun take on Jack and the Beanstalk.

Cast members and back stage helpers have spent much of the last three months rehearsing for the pantomime, which they performed at the school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

Greg McGonigal, faculty head for music and arts, said: "It's been phenomenal.

"First to third years take part in the show with young leaders from S1 to S6 to make sure this magic happens.

"They've been rehearsing after school and in their own time and they always manage to pull it out of the bag."

He added that it was lovely to be able to share his pupils' talents at this time of year.

All Saints, St Mary's and St Patrick's primaries have also visited the school to see the show and have really enjoyed the pantomime.

Greg said: "It's a good transition for our primaries to come along and see the show and get involved when they in the school."

Pupil Lucy McLean, a 4th year who has been helping backstage with props and costumes, said: "There's a cast of around 30.

"It's been great fun, the songs are really good. We have a lot of pop songs in the show and everyone has been singing along."

The show ran for three days, with matinee performances on two days.

Lucy added: "Primary pupils always love coming along and they like meeting the cast afterwards.

"It's like meeting a celebrity, they say 'oh there's Jack'.

Lucy said the show has also been a good experience for pupils, who have had the chance to showcase their talents and work as a team.

She said: "I'm studying for my prelim exams just now, so it's good to have some fun with my friends."
