AN Inverclyde-born journalist and marketeer is getting ready to share her views on what matters to the local people in the new edition of the Weekend Tele. 

Former Telegraph reporter Amy Shearer is returning to her home-town paper as a feature writer and columnist. 

The writer-at-large will be sharing her views in a weekly column, and digging into issues that matter in detailed interviews with people who are making an impact on their communities. 

Amy, 26, said she's delighted to be returning to the paper.

She added: "It's so nice to be back and sharing my views on the world from a different perspective. 

"I'm excited about returning to the paper in a different capacity. 

"I know a lot of people locally and I know what people care about. 

"I enjoy being at the heart of the community and still being very much involved."

Wemyss Bay woman Amy has always had a strong connection with the paper. 

Amy went to St Patrick's Primary and Notre Dame High School, and while she was at secondary school, she started writing her Telegraph column, One Girl's View.

She started out raising funds for the U Matter Club and has donated to many different organisations. 

Amy said she's very proud of her relationship with the Telegraph. She added: "I grew up with the paper. 

"When I was a wee girl, I used to run to the door to get it when it was delivered. 

"It's always been a big part of my life. 

"It's nice to now be viewed as a trusted voice within the community."

In 2020, Amy started as a reporter at the Tele when still was still at university, and continued in her role after she graduated with a degree in journalism, creative writing, and English Literature from the University of Strathclyde. 

She now works for a marketing agency and is a freelance journalist. 

Amy said she can't wait to get started in her new Weekend Tele role. 

She added: "This is an exciting new chapter of my life and I'm really happy that the Telegraph is part of it.

"My granny Alice is delighted too as she loves the Tele!"
