CELEBRATIONS were in order for a team of young Inverclyde musicians after the they enjoyed a bumper weekend of competition success.

Riverside Youth Band retained its title in the Senior Section of the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships in Perth Concert Hall last weekend.

The group brough home the Band Supplies Trophy, as well as a medal for each player.

Earlier that day, Riverside Training Band received a prestigious Gold Award after making its debut at the Scottish Concert Band Festival (SCBF) in Barrhead.

The band also received an invite to the SCBF National Finals in March 2025.

(Image: Riverside Youth Band) Reflecting on the day, musical director Mark Good said: "Performing in two competitions in two locations in one day was a considerable undertaking, but members of Riverside Youth Band and our Training Band rose to the occasion and shone on stage.

"Some were involved in both bands, performing first thing in the morning in Barrhead and last thing in the evening in Perth - they did themselves, their families and Inverclyde proud."

At the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships, the Youth Band performed a programme of Semper Fidelis, The Last Rose of Summer featuring cornet soloist, Ash Paton, The Girl Who Sat on the Hill, hymn tune Manchester, and Road to Run.

"A super cornet soloist with other great solo contributions around the band, and a great percussion team."

Meanwhile, the Training Band's programme comprised Ghostbusters, Uptown Funk, and two movements from James Pendleton's Castles of Scotland.

The competitions came at the end of a busy weekend, which began with Riverside performing in a concert on Friday evening featuring local musical talent at Port Glasgow New Parish Church.

Riverside will also host its own Christmas concert on December 20 at Port Glasgow Community Campus.

This event will feature performances from the youth band, training band and rookies.
