GREENOCK-born Celtic star Luke McCowan showed that he hasn't forgotten his roots after he paid a visit to his childhood side East End United following his superb four goal contributions against Ross County last weekend.

The 26-year-old went back to where it all began just hours after netting his fifth goal of the season for Celtic against the Staggies.

The former Ayr and Dundee man paid a visit to his childhood side, based in the east end of Greenock, to help them celebrate their awards night at Greenock Town Hall.

McCowan posed for pictures in his Celtic top and handed out awards to the club's current crop of youth stars who are turning out for the 2014 side.

A social media post from the club read: "Great season for the boys; some well deserved rest for Christmas and New Year.

"What a buzz for the boys when Luke McCowan made an appearance!"

The classy midfielder is an inspirational figure for all those making their way in the game at the club.

In a stunning performance last weekend, McCowan set up Liam Scales before lifting the ball over Ross County keeper Ross Laidlaw to net a goal of his own and then teeing up Callum McGregor and Adam Idah in the five goal rout.

The talented footballer came through the ranks at the East End United before joining Ayr United's academy set up in 2014.

His rise since then has been nothing short of amazing, as he earned a move from Ayr to Dundee where he won the Championship title before skippering the Den's Park side to a top six finish last term.

And despite making it to the very top of the Scottish game by joining Celtic in the summer, McCowan's determination to succeed hasn't waivered.

He's been limited to just three league starts at Celtic Park - but he last week said he'll ensure he's always ready to be called upon.

He said: "You can't have a petted lip when you are not playing in this team you have got to be ready to come on and do your bit.

"The squad is massive but it is full of quality and there are so many games in the season that you just have to be ready when called upon."
