SIX Inverclyde community groups have had their community action and commitment to improving people's health and wellbeing celebrated this week.

Environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful has recognised the groups from Inverclyde for their work to improve their communities for climate, nature and people.

The six groups taking part in the It’s Your Neighbourhood initiative were recognised at the annual seminar and celebration event which took place on Tuesday December 3.

Across 27 local authority areas, 195 groups were recognised, celebrated and thanked for their passionate and committed efforts to improve and protect their communities.

Belville Community Garden Trust, Blooming Inverkip, Branchton Gardening Club, The Drying Green, The Inverclyde Shed and Wellington Allotment Gardens Association all received recognition for their efforts in the past year.

Five of the six groups, Belville Community Garden, Blooming Inverkip, The Inverclyde Shed and Wellington Allotment Gardens, received an outstanding award - whilst the Drying Green were given a thriving award for their efforts.

Juliette Camburn, senior community initiatives officer, said: “Every year we welcome our fantastic It’s Your Neighbourhood groups and celebrate their remarkable achievements.

“All the groups make such a difference in their areas. Their impact is felt and appreciated by all and it’s crucial that they are recognised and thanked for their tireless efforts.

“Congratulations to all our entrants and thank you to the amazing volunteers for all you do to make your community a cleaner, greener and more sustainable place for us all.”
