A MAN breached a night-time bail curfew by turning up at the Greenock home of two 'fearful' women and declaring he was armed with a hammer.

Christopher Rodgers shouted, swore and threatened to boot in the front door of the property on Hillside Road.

Rodgers, 36, was subject to a court order to remain within his bail address between 7pm and 7am each day when he committed the offence on November 10 last year.

He has been locked up since and pleaded guilty through lawyer Aidan Gallagher at the sheriff court this week.

Prosecutor John Penman said: "Both witnesses heard the accused state, 'Let me in or I'll kick it in'.

"Both were fearful at this time.

"One of the women opened the hall window and asked the accused to leave, to which he replied by swearing in telling her where to go.

"A neighbour shouted from across the street asking the accused to leave, to which the accused swore in referring to the person as 'fat' and stating, 'Nobody asked you'.

"The accused was overheard stating that he was in possession of a hammer."

Rodgers, of Roxburgh Avenue, had also been accused of making threats of violence within a police vehicle and giving false details to officers in an alleged attempt to pervert the course of justice, but his not guilty pleas to these charges were accepted by the Crown.

Solicitor Mr Gallagher told the court that Rodgers is on a community payback order regarding another matter and there is an allegation that he has breached it, with a hearing set for March 23.

Sheriff Andrew McIntyre deferred sentence on Rodgers for a background report until then and further remanded him in custody.
