A NEW £100m college in Greenock has been added to the SNP candidate's wishlist of new investments for the area.

Stuart McMillan has already declared that he wants a new health centre in Port Glasgow as well as a new hospital to replace Inverclyde Royal.

On the education front, he wants more cash for a fresh further education facility.

The Finnart Street campus is in urgent need of investment and locally the SNP is backing the college's bid for a new building in the East India Dock site.

SNP council group leader Elizabeth Robertson and Councillor Chris Curley recently backed the proposal but as yet there has been no confirmation of funding and local elected members and campaigners point out that courses have moved to Paisley and Clydebank, while student numbers have fallen.

Mr McMillan said: "I have looked at all the options and a new campus is the best one.

"West Scotland College is completely committed to Inverclyde.

"Further education is key to training and supports business locally.

"My understanding is that the college are finalising plans for what will be in the building and then they will go to the funding council.

"The funding is there for a college."
