DATING to May 1974, these pictures show the old and new roads from Port Glasgow to Greenock.
The westbound section of the dual carriageway in Port Glasgow had recently opened but Ardgowan Street was still carrying the eastbound traffic.
It would not be long before the last of the tenements on and leading off Ardgowan Street would be demolished and, of course, in following years all the Lithgow’s shipyard buildings would disappear.
