THE Universal invitation has been extended to Blur to visit the place where the iconic image for their new album cover was shot — Gourock Outdoor Pool.
Provost Drew McKenzie — clearly a fan of the band — was so effusive in his comments that they would surely bring a smile to Damon Albarn's face.
Our jovial provost borrowed some famous song lyrics when he said: "It's great that all the people, so many people are now talking about Gourock Pool thanks to Blur."
His, and Councillor Martin McCluskey's, suggestion that the band might make their way to Gourock for a rather special visit may be lighthearted — but we're all hoping it happens.
It would certainly go down as one of Inverclyde's Best Days, and perhaps it might even happen on a Bank Holiday when all the Girls & Boys would certainly all agree You're So Great.
But regardless, Blur have already done Inverclyde proud by putting our great district — not just Gourock Pool — on a truly global stage.
What a fantastic free advert for the area, something that is sure to heighten interest and attract the crowds to the pool just in time for the summer season.
So, thank you to photographer Martin Parr, who took the photo way back in 2004.
And a thank you to Blur, no strangers to Gourock having boarded a ferry to Dunoon for a concert in the 1990s, for giving us all such a lift.
