I FEAR I may be about to upset many people but in what twisted universe would a home owner with a three bedroom semi-detached house (courtesy of the original Right to Buy scheme all those years ago) pay a similar amount in council tax as a housing association tenant in a one bedroom flat in a rather old tenement?
Councils rightly complain about the penny-pinching coalition masquerading as the Scottish Government whilst they oversee a patently unfair council tax system.
I am not calling for a total re-evaluation of all properties in Scotland, but surely there has to be a review of how ridiculous situations such as this arise.
The dreaded bedroom tax might have been justified after all, but as a means to address this anomaly.
I would assume that this imbalance would be corrected if the semi-detached home was sold to a new owner but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one.
