OUR local politicians have taken their eyes off the prize, to reinstate the Inchgreen Dry Dock as an operational marine facility.
However, many are focused on issues that are not going to provide the high skilled industrial jobs that we need and have produced for generations.
Peel Ports have effectively ring-fenced the dry dock and kept it outside the Joint Venture (JV), thus keeping control.
Our council leader has promoted the JV and pushed it through his Labour group and left the rest of the councillors to squabble amongst themselves.
Peel are focused on their business strategy, not Inverclyde’s, and we have to recognise this.
If Peel really cared about making Inchgreen Dry Dock operational they would have replaced the dock cranes they blew up and repaired the damage to the pump room that was flooded.
They have replaced the cranes in the container terminal, why not Inchgreen?
Our investment should have been made to compulsory purchase Inchgreen and secure the facility for our community, and not an offshore conglomerate focused on protecting their assets elsewhere.
The time has now come for the Inverclyde community to demand the nationalisation of Inchgreen Dry Dock facility and wind up Inchgreen Marine Park Ltd.
Ask your general election candidates their opinion and vote accordingly.
