STEWART KEAN is looking forward to a new start in his career as he becomes Morton's fifth signing of the summer.

The bustling striker was released by first division rivals Queen of the South at the end of the season, and boss Allan Moore wasted little time in offering him a deal with the Cappielow club.

And while Kean, 27, was glad to complete his move quickly, he is more excited to be a part of Moore's new-look Morton side.

He told the Tele: "I spoke to the new manager and things look good so I'm looking forward to joining the club.

"It's tough out there with so many people in the same position and the way things are going, but when I spoke to the manager I was happy to come to a big club.

"It's a full-time club and one which has a big future.

"The new manager is looking to take the club forward so it's these things which make it exciting.

"I had a good time at Queens but it's good to get a fresh start and get your head down again.

"It was disappointing to leave but you need a new start and a wee move sometimes." Kean enjoyed his most prolific spell while at Ayr United, scoring 29 goals in 65 league starts, but struggled to hold down a starting place at Palmerston last year.

However, he remains confident of rediscovering his goal-scoring form at Cappielow and believes his tireless running and pace make him a genuine threat to first division defences.

He said: "I only started 16 games for Queens last season but I still scored eight goals. Most people go through a spell like that but this year I'm looking to kick on and I'm sure I can.

"I work hard and I'm quite quick. I think the manager likes hard-working players and in the first division I think you need these players to do well.

"If you look at the teams who have won the league, in every one of them there have been hard-working players and I think it will help." Kean also played for Ton's fierce rivals St Mirren, where he established himself as a popular figure during a three-and-a-half year stint with the Paisley club.

He said: "I had a good time at St Mirren but you need to move on. It happens in football, and I'm sure I will enjoy my time at Morton as well.

"I might get some stick but it's part and parcel of the game and hopefully I can change that with a few goals."
