MORTON strikers Kevin Kelbie and Stewart Kean know the pressure is on them to hit the goals trail this season if they are to stay in the team.

Ton are not short of firepower up front with the arrival of Kelbie, Kean and Frenchman Tarik Bengelloun.

Brian Graham and Peter Weatherson will also be in contention for places, with the latter likely to be first choice if fit.

Kelbie, pictured, who signed for the club earlier this summer, struck a hat-trick against amateur outfit Moorcroft in midweek and is desperate for the chance to prove himself in Ton's first competitive game of the season on Sunday against Dumbarton in the Alba Challenge Cup.

He said: "This year there's competition for two striking places and it's going to be one of those situations where, if you get a chance, you have to take it, try and score and perform well.

"I've played quite a lot in pre-season and I was pleased to score three goals the other night. It was only against an amateur side, but I thought we played well.

"I'm feeling really good at the moment. It's been a good pre-season and the boys are a lot fitter. I have never had a pre-season like it and my fitness has come on leaps and bounds." Kean also joined this summer, and the former Ayr United striker believes the variety of Ton's striking options will stand them in good stead this season. He said: "I think everybody brings something a wee bit different.

"The strikers we have signed (Bengelloun and Kelbie) have shown up well in pre-season and then we have Peter Weatherson. He is a really experienced player who has been brilliant over the years for the club. It'd be good to play alongside him." Kean has seen enough in pre-season to believe Ton could make a serious impact on the First Division this season.

He said: "We have got to try and push on as much as possible.

"We've got to be looking at the top of the league. Every player wants to be pushing for as high as they can go and we have a lot of quality in our side."
